Am currently feeling lost without mine. Old engine is out, was going to rebuild it but a fresh one is going in instead. Old one can be a spare should i need in the future, or a slow fun rebuild project. Or even a super cool coffee table.
Basically made it to half a million kms! excessive blowby, and not much compression. It still never gave up though!
Young fella's D2 has just got back from a visit to the doctors where a return valve was replaced as it was struggling to start and then would randomly cut out when driving. Since back home it has been starting after a couple of cranks, but when he filled the tank up yesterday it spewed probably 5 L of diesel out of the top of the tank somewhere (WTH)? Took the cover off the intank fuel pump and recess around the new pump was full of diesel. Hhhhmmm, it seems to have dried up and stopped leaking today but are the two connected? When the tank drops a bit we'll be dropping it down from under the car and see what's what. Aaaaaggh Discovery ownership, never a dull day. Now just need to replace the leaking oil cooler on my D4 SDV6...................

Edit: If the workshop replaced the pump, take it back and request someone with experience work on it the 2nd time round.
If you do decide to fix it yourself, access it from the top, but make sure the seal ( like a big grommet ) has one side inside the tank and one outside, then screw the ring on.
Replace the copper washers and O rings on the injectors.
With the leaky fuel issue, I reckon it could be the push click fitting may be worn/broken/fatigued.
Nephew had same issue.
After he replaced the head, he's had a lot of trouble with cold starts(only cold, never warm). Anyhow, one of the things he changed was that non-return, or duckbill doodad at the fuel filter.
But immediately after he did that< and touching nothing at the fuel pump, or top of tank area, he also got a fuel leaking issue.
We both immediately though of fuel pump seal, he replaced that, but still leaked. He then found that one of the fittings was leaking. As he did the work himself, and I was there .. I can only assume that when he disturbed the hose for the return line at the fuel filter, the fitting at the tank was weak enough that it started to leak due to the line being disturbed.
After replacing the hose/connector assembly no leak. I just can't recall which colour connector he said he found leaking, to confirm that it was the return line.
But I don't reckon it was a coincidence that handling the return line to replace the valve suddenly caused a leak on top of the tank.
And you should need to drop the tank to access the 4 ports and seal. All doable with tank in situ and even quite full.
When brothers TD5 at the time had a leak up top, we had all the carpet/access hole opened up. Cleaned up the diesel, dried, brake clean, etc to have it as clean as possible.
Went for a very short drive, 4 corners around the block, tank full(ish) got back home and it was obvious(in his instance) it was the pump seal was leaking.
Definitely going to be "whenever" in my case. But the OKA will get old as a daily driver...Quote:

I've been looking around for a project and have found a 2002 D2 that has got an oil cooler leak into the coolant, plus a few other bits that need tidying up. My young bloke is showing interest in learning the dark art of Land Rover maintenance and this seems like a good little project. Nothing crazy planned for it, just fix what needs fixing, license and then move it on. All going well about a 4 months time frame (I work 2 weeks on 1 week home) and then will be looking for the next challenge[bighmmm]
@Tins, I still think a 6.6 Duramax swap into the OKA would change your mind about using it as a daily...

Indeed it would....... So would a 6.7 Powerstroke. I did consider a Scania 18.4, but compliant engineers are thin on the ground for that one. But Opticruise.....Quote:
