So glad I didn't try it myself. I figured by the time I bought a tool I would probably never use again, and the ball joints the $800 sounded reasonable. Plus trying to do that with the car on jack stands, just wasn't an appealing way to spend my weekend.
That's a fair price, I did have trouble with only 1 balljoint the rest behaved themselves, I figured if i bought a tool and did the job myself the money saved would buy the Nanocom.
I do have to pull the drivers side apart as the new axle seal is leaking, that's easy enough i might turn up a proper seal installer this time.

    Rear door lock fixed

Got some 20mm shaft motor in and replaced the burnt out motor in the rear door lock ass today. The job is fiddly and I couldn't get away from braking the little white lugs off ( old age I think ) but got it back together and works fine. Also got on to some 27mm FC280PC/FC-280 11800RPM D Flat Shaft Motor Auto Car Door Lock off eBay so will wait till they arrive to do the other doors. Being 27mm I should be able to get away with not having to cut and shut them to fit as the original length is 29.5mm. whats 2.5 mm between friends. I picked the rear door ass first as it is the easiest to remove. So now I have the rear door working and the Drivers side front working . Three more to go.
Also modified a land cruiser steel bull bar and fitted it to the front so now the bull lights are on and working. Wow let there be light really. Was able to incorporate the original crush points to the bar so its air bag compatible. A bit more covering for the holes at the bottom and it will be finished. Quite sturdy.

Fitted a TRS remapped ECU to the TD5 with the help of a fellow forumite. Drove home up the freeway & held top gear (no down changes) entire way from Mt Barker to Sterling turnoff. Then took the Southern Expressway and again held top gear, economy mode, cruise control at 100k whilst going up the big hill at the start. Previously I'd manually down change to 3 and use sports mode to hold 100k. A very happy Landyite.

Why didn't the TD5 come out with a better MAP to start with?

    long term durability(is my guess).
Do you have an EGT gauge?

I just found out(and suspected) that my brothers D2 also has a map from TRS. Says so on the sticker on the ECU. Unknown vintage, but a few years at least.
But we've now tracked down an intermittent issue with the way his runs rough sometimes(and recently like a weak fuel pump issue) to either an ECU or a loom problem.

EGT gauge is still on the shopping list. Interesting about the issue. Hopefully I won't have that issue.

Found a couple of faults on the Nanocom tho:

2.8 Ambient Pressure Circuit (logged fault)
Fault 20-04 Pressure Control Valve Fault

Could someone please tell me what these are. I don't own a Nanocom, so I don't have a user manual/fault list.

Don't quote me on this, but I think:

Ambient Pressure Circuit = air box sensor
Pressure Control Valve = ACE .. do you have ACE?

    Fuel Pump

Well today I got round to finally pulling the fuel pump out of my TD5 to see if the internal filter were clogged. Turns out someone previous had changed the pump to an after market on ( not VDO ) so that would explain the noisy pump. The internal filter were full of scale so cleaned it and had to bodge up the bottom filter as the plastic had started the crackup. Seems I might have to replace the lot sooner that later. Anyway cleaned it all up for the moment and put it back together and low and behold 50% quiter. Still wines a little but no where as much as before. You could here it over the radio ( on low). Satisfied with this job. Unfortunatly didn't take photos of the job but very easy to do. People say why do you keep working on it for , well I paid around 4000 for it and if it was in real top condition I could tripple that price so the little cost is a saving and being out of the trade for 25 years and retired now I sort of like doing the odd job. Keeps me out of the missus hair. Till next time when I might be pulling apart the steering box to reset and fix the leaks.

EGT gauge ASAP!!!!! What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

Holding top means heavier fuelling, and with it climbing EGTs...

Fit a gauge for some peace of mind and drive to suit.
