    IP Globes

the RHS globe has just blown. They are a T5, I can only see white ones, is the green colour from a rubber overlay? Are the LED ones any good? I'll change all of them, if one has gone, the others can't be far behind.

    A small warning about led.
just my opinion ... great for around town, but can be too bright for dark roads, eg way outback types in the dark.
I find too much lighting inside, you can lose some vision to the outside world.

I got a few sets, yep I'm sure T5s, but haven't yet fitted. I have all the bits to add a rheostat to be able to dim them .. just too lazy to do it

maybe your preference is different to mine.

Also being LEDs, many are only fitted one way(positive/negative) and can be annoying to fit as you don't know the polarity. You can find non polarised types that can be fitted any way and are easier to install.

Colour is a green screen on the dials themselves. So white globes = green dials+white pointers. if you change colours, you get funky dials and colour of LED = colour of pointers.
White leds wash out the green tone a bit, they can look a bit more cyan than green compared to incandescent globes.

I have a set of RGBs that use a remote to change the colour, but the globes don't have good reception to the remote through the dash and hard to get them to change colour.
Can be made to look nice when they do work tho.

EDIT: the trans/odo readout can also be changed to whatever colour you like tho. eg., white = white .. etc. IRRC, they may be either T4.7(more likely) or T4.2(less likely). I think the HVAC cluster uses some T4.2 types.

Green thing like a condom. I have LEDs in mine, but they are actually dimmer than the original. But you'll struggle to get green, well, I did. The blue doesn't quite look right but I'm used to it.

Beware, the binnacle plastic WILL be brittle.

Well, turning on the lights, going into an underground carpark, and all the dash lights lit up! I know it won't last but it will be good while it does.

EDIT and two days later the light is out again.

I have one or two need doing in mine, so I might as ell do the lot in LED. However, if they are too bright like you suggest I will need a dimmer.

Where did you get the gear to to dim them and is there much involved installing it?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Looks much brighter in the picture than it does in reality. Not sold on the blue.

From your pic I don't think I like the blue much.

Anyone got green that they can post a pic?
