Yes, that's pretty much what my Nano reported when mine blew a heater hose a couple of months ago. Gauge read Fine, fine, fine, fine HOT!!!

Nanocom told the true story. I really should fit the temp guard thing I have here somewhere....

Crikey! Sounds like I was getting close…

Anyway weather has now cooled down so it has not been as big a problem.

It’s going to be a slow trip home….

The D2's temp gauge is a bad joke, it goes to the horizontal position at 70*C and stays steady untill 119*C... the red zone starts from 120*C when it jumps directly there , stupid engineering

unfortunately this seems to be the most common method of doing it.

Brother had exact same issue with his Patrol once.
We were both on a week trip with families, he was towing.
He called over radio that the Patrol was suddenly in the red. We pulled up to check. No leaks, thought to press on, as it cooled quickly. next leg, about 5klms further, same call, rad hose pops had to pull up and 'cut and paste it' just so it'd hold coolant, I connected his trailer to my car to lessen the load, but all the way on a 6hr drive it just over heated.

But he said same thing about the Patrol gauge. running normal then suddenly 'RED' .. no gradual warning.

I have two Peugeots, and both do the same thing. The gauge has numbers(70, 80 90 and 100). as you drive it gradually shows what would be the actual temp. On a hot day towing it will rise from it's normal 70-80 ish, and hit 100 .. in good time and enough time to think to yourself, maybe time to slow it down a bit(mainly on a climb). as you come down the other side, it'll show cooler temps.

If Pug can set it up like this, why can't others?

This is interesting, as its not the case with my D2 (MY00.5 with DPL ECU).

    It has:

    Cold
    1/4
    Normal
Just a fraction over normal (when its getting hot - this is a very very minor move, but you can see the needle change in relation to the icon behind it)
    3/4.

I've never seen it go to hot as the engine derates to only idle at 3/4. I found this when my PAS/Water pump drive drive gear failed which stopped the water pump.
    Cheers

You can change it in the tune to add more steps and where you want it to sit at what temperature.

I've got pics of my indicator positions at different temps along with the changes in the tune settings to do it.

Way back somewhere in this thread if you know how to search my posts (I'm too ignorant to learn how)

You aren’t getting close until 115° What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

And then only if the cooling system depressurises.

People should see the standard operating temps of the good old Falcon 6 in the EF/EL - wasn’t unusual to see 120° working them on a good day.

At least the temp gauge would be showing that the thing was warm... On the two I had a coolant loss wasn't too much of an issue, because the LPG converter would freeze and the thing would stop
