What do you mean by "passed away"? What did he say was wrong with them?
Hi everyone;
New at the forum and LR enthusiast. Here's my first story.
I have the typical TD5 situation injectors nightmare. My 2003 Land Rover Discovery II only 4 of the 5 injectors (the green ones part # MSC000030) have "passed away". with subsequent problems
So need to get new ones, however, the price for each of then is super high if new. I know other Disco owners who have bought used ones and have been lucky so far. Nevertheless, my mechanic have been emphatic in avoid getting used ones due to the potential problems could eventually come out because of installing used injectors.
I noticed there are many used ones for sale on Ebay as well as other sites.
Is it ok to get used injectors or am I jumping on a high risk adventure here?
Any lessons learned, suggestions, etc, etc will be more than welcome.
Regards
Rick

4 out of 5 that is unbelievable. If there is really something wrong with them which I doubt 2nd hand ones will be fine if there is some provenance with them.
How many K's on yours? Mine have done 450K and don't miss a beat. Definitely question your mechanic.
PS: Tell your mechanic to look at the injector harness and for oil in the wiring loom to the ECU!
Rare occurrence to have 4 go at once. Lismore diesel can rebuild them. I was told $550 each but it wasn't from them

It doesn't leak oil, Its sweating power
If the presumption that 4 injectors are gone is based only on fault codes stored about them it's most probably as said already only an injector loom issue IMO
Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
Certainly unless ingress of water or other really bad contaminant then suspect a wiring/ oil in harness problem. In all the years I have worked on Td5's I haven't had to replace more than 1 injector on any 1 vehicle at any 1 time. And yes I have seen some big km on them. Had a defender in today with 432K same set of injectors. Still gets 10l/100 .
In fact I can say that next to the Tdi and the Isuzu 4bd1 these must be the longest living injectors I can think of in a Landy.
JC
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Is this mechanic a land rover specialist or just your run of the mill mechanic, as run of the mill mechanics only rely on their scan tools an may not be aware of the oily loom or ECU.
Others have already said my thoughts, sounds like you're being fed porkies/misinformation.
Ironically, the Lucas injectors are a seriously impressive bit of gear.
