There is also torque at idle and JUST off idle ( like you get climbing slowly up hilly stuff off road ...) and power for overtaking and merging etc...😎😈

I have both, a tuned td5 and 4.6.
The rv8 can pull from 800 rpm to 6000 rpm quite happily, that's a power band of 5200.
The td5 will pull from 1500 to 3200, that's a power band of 1700 revs.
rv8
Having had several of each...
A RV8 can't pull the skin off a custard until it steps up on that cam... and by 4500 it's all noise and nothing more..
The TD5 tuned will be at 0.8bar by 1100 rpm and ramping to full torque in the next 800 rpm.The V8 is lacklustre below 2500rpm...
Stick a load on the back and go for it
Now for the OP - Get it tuned to suit the engine and you'll get the best you can from your 4.6.. any less is criminal![]()
Tombie one day you should come for a run in mine. It's still pulling hard at redline well above 4500. Maybe the manual helps. Put your foot down at 1000 rpm in 5th at 50kph and it just pulls gently away....and that is a manual not an auto gearing down on the fluid flywheel. Look the V8 4.6 is just better. 😆 Cheers
Funny though the stock Td5 is screaming like a banchi at 5000rpm (you just wouldn't do it/want to wait for it to get there...) for its max power of 101 kw versus 166 kw in Stock form for the 4.6 Thor at a silky smooth 4750...
Cheers
mate if a RV8 has trouble with custard,,
you're gunna hate hearing about a 2.5L diesel trying to move 2T off idle,,
its one of the reasons the stupid torque converter wont lock up till highway speed,, the things just dont make any power,, even when the turbo cuts in--
300Nm is chicken feed.
The standard RR 4.6 made 407Nm at 2600rpm,,
You'd think RPi could do better than that,,![]()

They can't push much harder if you want it driveable for a 4wd. Even TVR only makes 470 from a 5,000cc
What are you on about Pedro? The TC locks at 80.. hardly
Highway speeds...
TD5s moved my rather large/heavy Shark Cat quickly up to 120km/h without any drama.. the V8 wants a lower gear ever incline of hill.. and needs to sing to make the torque once the load is on.. that's where the expense comes in..
Hey Scott - of course the V8 is smooth - its Liquid Dampened - at 5,000rpm under load it looks like this!

Short video of first second 4.6 with 4.0 ECU...addictive stuff and zero flatspot anywhere on rev range.
Crank the audio UP

Sounds bloody great ozscott,
