Whats the tyre size? How much lift do you have on the d2?

    33 x 10.5 x 16 Simex Jungle Tracker 2's.

Few of us from D2AU used to run them.
    Cheers

Basically the same size as the 255/85's I run on the Deefer !
    Impressive !

Slunnie runs 285/75's, but not sure how much massaging his guards have ?

For a 2" lift, 265/75-16 is the largest without rubbing, although some will still rub with this size depending on the build of the vehicle and the amount of articulation it has. The Simex JT2 33x10.5-16 are oversized but fit because the treadface is curved due to the bias ply construction. The 285/75's will rub inside the guards with a 2" lift as will 255/85-16, but they will work with more lift and increased length bumpstops - the 255/85 rubbed all inside the guards with a 2" lift for me, but Walker seems to be successfully running 285/75 with offset rims and cut guards. None of these tyre sizes need guard trimming and I'm talking on factory rims, I'm also not talking about rubbing on the front radius arms as this can be corrected by a steering stop adjustment.

Thanks for all the reply and informations guys.

With 285/75 and 255/85, how much rub on the inside guard? How much more lift to make it work? Additional 1"? Body lift ok?
I am using p38 wheels which I think different offset than d2 wheel if that make any different. All I can see compare to my mate d2 with d2 wheels is that my 265 sit more inside.

With the 285/75-16 and a 2" lift, we tested this statically and got rubbing in a few places. doing this while driving would have made it worse as the forces are greater and in more directions - we can not get the full range of suspension travel from static testing. Here are the pics from the testing of all of the rub points - you will need to look in this gallery folder.

With 255/85-16 it has been tested by a few of us and it rubbed also - I dredged up a few really old photos. Again, you will need to look at the photos in the link.
    D2 Oversize tyre fitment - www.slunnie.com

Its also important to note that suspension lift isn't necessarily a guide to if a tyre will fit, you really need to be looking at how the maximum uptravel point is limited to prevent rubbing. In the pics you will see the 255/85-16 being tested with a standard and a 2" lift. The max uptravel point is the same, but the standard suspension is just more prone to getting there, but at the end of the day what fits with a 2" lift will also fit with std suspension. When you get to extending bumpstops with further lift and longer travel suspension, then really you're getting into bigger tyre fitment beyond what will go on standard.Y

You may also be interested in this article from Wim van doorst in the Netherlands who was collating tyre fitment information for the D2 when people were just starting to push the boundaries for tyre fitment and suspension development here and in the US. I have copied his work here:

The P38 wheels are the same specifications as the D2 wheels and between all of them they are the same offset. They came in 16x7, 16x8 and 18x8.

    265x75x16 on 8" rims

Whilst this might not answer your question when I bought my 2003 DII it was running 265x75x16 tyres on 8" steel wheels, I did not notice any rubbing but didn't leave them on for very long.

I did advertise them as a lot for sale on this forum but they have not sold.

If they stay here I may use them when I plan a real off road trip.

I put the 18" alloys back on as they were supplied with the car, looks a lot nicer.

    Regards

    Mike
