    Compass mirror retrofit

ive got one of those boring rear view mirrors and i want one of the (HSE?) ones with the compass.

would this be easy to retrofit? i assume like most of disco 2 stuff, the wiring is there?

Yes it is totally possible and easy. You will need to remove the mirror, wiring and compass sensor paying attention to its orientation when mounted to the roof.

I took one from a D2 to fit to my D2a. The wiring was not there on my D2a to just plug it in. As I also removed the sunvisors with vanity mirrors I had removed the wiring to power the light in these too.

I fitted one to my 2002 Disco a few years back, the wiring was there, up above the mirror. Simply plug it in and enter the zone to account for magnetic variation (East Coast Australia is zone 5) and calibrate it by slowly driving around in circles a couple of times. The procedure is in some, but not all, editions of the Owner's Handbook. (BTW The magnetic sensor is inside the mirror assembly - not sure what Jazman is talking about wrt the sensor )

There weren't only in the HSE model either, they were in most of the models for a couple of years.
So it should be easy to find one.
