Thread: Tyre Advice 245 or 265/70 265/75?

I had a new set of Yokohama's fitted a year or so ago and was told by Beurepairs at the time that 245/70/16 was the biggest tyre I could fit without fitting a lift kit.
They could be wrong But I haven't had any problems using the 245 tyres in sand or rock so far, Although I am certain that the 265 tyres would do a better job though.

I have run most configurations up to 265 and IMHO 245/75/16 is the way to go. Cheers

I am running with Falken Wildpeak AT02 245/70R16. They have been an awesome tyre. I am just a tad under 2 years old with mine and 65,000km. They still have plenty of tread left. I have run them through clay, rock, gravel and water at around 20-22psi and they have been excellent. No punctures and no chipping.

On road, they are as quiet as any AT is going to get. I drive 80km of freeway daily there is no audible whine. They grip well in the dry and wet.

I choose not to rotate mine (I have a theory). Wear has been even. No scrubbing. Stock suspension geometry and for the most part, they have been run with stuffed original factory shocks (just replaced with Bilsteins).

I got 12.5l/100km while towing a 1.3t camper over 600km os measurement.

And they look great.

I have 265/70 and get around 11L/100 and 14L/100 towing a Kimberley kamper. This size is about 6% bigger than std. 255/70 is about 4% oversize. 245/75 and 265/70 are approx' the same diameter. Any bigger and you start putting your gearing out too much ... especially when towing.

I think it was the guys from LR Automotive told me that 265/75/16 will fit with no alterations if u have a bullbar.

Thanks for the reply & pics. I guess the bigger the tyre the greater any issues get amplified also. I wonder if 245/70/16 is as big as a 'couple times a year' off roader needs to go. True, 265/75/16 will give me 1" extra lift, but maybe I could just pick an alternative path?!
