    Running cool but losing coolant

We towed our poptop to Paynesville from Horsham, with the Nanocom connected and the coolant never got hotter than 91.7 C. That's odd? At our overnight stop coolant dripped all night. Had stupidly left ALL our torches behind so was not able to see where from. Topped up up the header tank. Red coolant. Kept an eye on the drip. Ran nice and cool - never built up pressure when I loosened the cap. The inside of the cap and plastic header has always had a certain amount of pink sludge like yoghurt, but I have ignored it and not done a clean out. Generally does not use coolant, this drip is new. Seems to be coming from the overflow but why should it drip from there when the level is lower than the overflow? Starting from cold the temperature guage stays cool for a while and then goes up and stays midway as it always has, suggests the thermostat is opening. Am puzzled why it's running so cool, especially towing. As no pressure is building up I don't know if the cap is faulty. Surely she should be running hotter than 91.7?
Any advise what I should do next?
    Thanks,
    Pete

I have sat in the McDonald's car park in January 2016 with the outside temp 40C A/C on. The temp on the Nanocom hit 92C then down to 88C Then up again.
I'd say your temp was fine.

Nulon 50% ethylene glycol. The half full 4litre came with the car and in two years I have only just (on this trip) used it up. I've never added anything else.

Oh good. Some people say red but don't know that they could be adding incompatible coolants that happen to be the same colour. Cheers

EDIT:- IGNORE THIS POST, I didn't read the OP correctly

If the puddle is on the righthand side of the engine I'd be suspecting a leaking fuel cooler.

Mine would leak overnight as everything cooled down, but no sign of a leak when engine was upto temperature. Also no overheating issues.

Info on how to fix is here www.discovery2.co.uk - Leaking Fuel Cooler Fix

This arvo I found the culprit - the pipe off the bottom of the header tank is fractured. That explains why it takes the roughly the same topup each time. A relief to have found the cause of the mystery. Have spoken to a Landie bloke in Bairnesdale who says he's awaiting a header tank from the UK, 6 weeks delivery. Apparently all the old ones were returned faulty. I'll try the wreckers but think I may be able to cobble it together with epoxy putty. Sounds like the tank just presses in...............is that it? If there is any other info to getting the tank out please let me know before i stuff it up in my enthusiasm. The overflow and feed in pipes are clipped on - any special trick to undoing those clips?
    Thanks,
    Pete

There is a clip on the car on the firewall side of the tank, you can push that back a bit to release that part of the tank. The clip is wide and painted the car colour. Check with epoxy as it may not stick to the plastic. Some epoxies won't to some plastics.

IMHO Sorry to say Bite the bullet and buy the genuine ones, the quality of the aftermarket ones are a lot to be desired. We no longer sell ANY D2 aftermarket ones due to returns. Not worth the hassle or reputation just to make a buck on demand. It doesn't really mater what brand of aftermarket they are labeled, they tend to come from the same factory. As for Britpart ones, we have had them leak when customer was filling the tank with coolant!
Some things you can not be a tight arse on.

As for part numbers there are 2 tanks used, PCF101410 and PCF101420 some had the rarer 3 outs and others had the 4 outlets, you can use the 4 outlet but you need to blank off the extra hose outlet with a piece of hose and a bolt and clamps.
