Thanks for those links. I'll be ordering from 4X4 as soon as I can if I can't get one from the wreckers, but today everyone is not working! Can't blame them. Removing the tank was remarkably easy - just pops out. There's a surprise. I found that the little pipe (that goes to a thing behind the fan, fuel cooler,I suppose,) has a crck about 3mm below where it comes out the tank. I think the hose has been replaced at some time and being a bit short always put a sideways pull on the pipe until it gave up. I found some plastic tube which i slid over the broken pipe up to the tank bottom and it covers the fracture. Clamped the hose back on and it's not leaking at present. An unconfident temporary fix.
Thanks for the help and suggestions here, it's been great to have the input and advice.
    Cheers,
    Pete

Just as a follow up: My repair to the expansion tank has survived 1000+Km, 650 of that towing the van and it's looking good for a permanent fix, unless I find a good 2nd handy along the way. The clamp is now firmly against the underside of the tank and there is no movement, no leak.
Thanks for the advice re no replacing it with after market tank.
    Cheers,
    Pete

After 100km, 650 towing the van all is well and no coolant lost. Might be a permanent fix but if I locate a good 2nd handy I'll use it.
Thanks for the advice when I was panicking!
    Pete
