    Low range select when stopped

Low range will not select unless rolling in neutral. It's conceivable that one might be in the position of unable to roll in neutral but need low range. Is it just very stiff? How hard can one push before the wrong thing gives up? Is this something that can be alleviated with the TC on the bench?
    Thanks,
    Pete

Which oil do you have in the transfer case?
It should be 75-90 for an easy shift.
If you already have 75-90 , the shift can be eased by loosening the selector ball a bit. This is located under a grub screw on the outside of the transfer case about half way along up next to the chassis. It should be then re loctited.
You should check that there is nothing wrong with the cable also.

I would have thought that the shift would be OK unless someone has tightened the detent ball grub screw up when reassembling the transfer.
They can often be a bit stubborn .

Has low range been used much? Sometimes if not used for a while they can tighten up. The cure is to regularly select them so the gears get some oil and don't stick. Which reminds me, time to put mine in low and run around the block.

Previous owner a city bloke but can't vouch for pre-history. 75/90 always. We use low range frequently on the boat ramp.

Next time I'm topping up I'll look for that selector ball and grub screw.

    Thanks for the hints
