OK , before turning the ign on, run the selector through the gears a couple of times then put it into neutral and turn ign on, do the lights still flash ? Does the indicator in the dash correlate with which gear you have selected,( you can use your nanocom to check this as well ) if no then xyz, needs replaced , rebuilt , water is only one cause, usually the contacts get corroded and lose tension , either way it won't fix itself for long. Its not too hard to fix them , the hardest part is remove/replace if you have a cat converter, if you don't have one then its easier.
My money is on BCU missbehaviour, unfortunately it can't be ruled out without replacement
