If it's all designed properly, it should last no dramas. Bigger Diesel engines run huge boost pressures too. The Cummins Signature runs over 50psi in some iterations, as does the QSK series engines - up to 60 litre V16's.

Boost hose connections, etc can cop a flogging if not fitted exactly right and they go off like a shotgun when they let go, but overall the engines live fine. Turbos would be fried by 500,000km though best case in these engines on highway, or 20,000 hours in stationary applications.

It remains to be seen if LR can get it right though.

The Igenium engine. Will it last?

Anyone tried to order a set of pistons, rings, and/or valves for one yet?
AFAIK the Ford "world engine" family are not considered as a rebuildable engine. Burning oil, or rattly big ends? Throw it away and fit a new one!
Wonder if this engine is of the same ilk?

probably is - welcome to the world of replacement / disposables.

around here it seems that the latest LC engines (the V8s) are replacement only

rebuilding / repair will be something our grandkids will nothing of unless they become collectors of ancient automobiles.

Found this on the net. The engines have the " ad-blue" urea injection set up, like the new Iveco trucks.

Love that they try to sell the efficiency as a plus, in that the owner will save about 400 pounds a year in fuel costs.

I mean, if you're buying a brand new Jag, I don't think 400 pounds a year is going to really be a big drawcard.

I wonder how long it will be before there will be a 'chip' to trick the ECU, such as has been around for quite a few years for Volvo and Scania trucks. Apparently they don't even void the warranty, but are most likely illegal.

I'm pretty sure the latest Ford Mustang has an aftermarket company putting 50 psi boost through that engine with twin turbos. Me thinks that power and not longevity is their main aim....

Any engine meeting Euro 5+ emissions requirements is not an engine that will last without some seriously hideous and expensive ongoing maintenance. especially with regards to DPF, EGR and turbine housing de-coking.
    Black Death will abound.
Extended drain interval sludging will be a regular failure mode.

    Bring it on.

Looks like I have to try to keep the D2 going for a few years yet. Not that I mind, but it is starting to cost a bit, since it got to 400,000 kms. Can't justify much more expenditure. Funny thing is, it is not the engine, just things hanging off it. Never mind, it could be worse, I could own a Puma.
