That is changeable. The Japanese and USA vehicle have them. Check out Dash Light Dimmer Controls and D2a instrument panel light dimmer

3 more cylinders, V formation, second turbo and diesel for me please - with a manual box behind it.

Personally, I don't find the standard illumination to be too bright at night, so it doesn't bother me.
I just think not having a dimmer switch it is a strange oversight.
I recently did my D1, will do my D2 as well one day.
They do have a dimmer, but from my understanding it's for Japan(required) and UK vehicles.
Got thee dimmer from UK, fitted pretty easily, works with LEDs too(I changed my D1 to all LEDs).
The slot for it in the dash pod exists, but you just need to hack the square cutout(easy to do).
It operates the console lights too.
Dimmer switch plus the female harness plug cost me about $20-30 all up.
Works a treat, but stupid design for the dimmer dial.

Normally I don't care for instrument lights, but at night on an outback road I like my instrument/dash lights as dim as I can, or even off.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

Heavy duty Torque Converter for the TD5 as standard. Having done mine I absolutely love it, different car. Goes like a Veyron now !! All torque and low rev gear changes and out with screaming engine trying to do more but going nowhere.

Extra couple of gears, and if that is all I have to add then has to be a bloody marvellous car. Our cars have soul, all new cars are just a lump of efficient plastic

A temp gauge that makes sense. The current "gauge" only says "still cold", "OK" or "cooked and it's gonna be expensive". Might as well have a blue, green and red LED's.

Land Rover seems to have got caught up in some sort of over thinking cycle with so many things - on again off again CDL, the door locks, thankfully I don't have one but the XYZ switch, etc., etc.

Honestly I reckon the single best thing Land Rover could have fixed in the 98-04 range of vehicles was quality control. If that had been a bit better they'd be a better vehicle with a better reputation. Not that they're not good as is What would you change on the Disco/TD5 and why.

Along with decent ancillaries for the TD5. A great engine let down badly.

    Johntins,

Do you mind saying what sorts of things you have in mind when you say ancillaries ?
Might give me an idea of what is possible!!

    Cheers, AndrewMilne

Manifolds and support, fuel cooler, injector loom, alternator/vac pump, starter motor, crank position sensor, harmonic balancer ( not strictly ancillary ), I'm sure there are more. All these things, apart from the harmonic balancer, are mainly nuisance value, but they are things that could have been done SO much better for no extra cost. The harmonic balancer is something else.

Seriously, I meant it when I said that the TD5 is a great engine. It performs like a common rail but it isn't one. A little more torque would be nice, but a simple chip or flash will fix that. Couple that with a simple turbo upgrade and you'll be amazed. (ATM I'm driving a V8 D2. I'd much prefer my chipped TD5. )

You'll also be p....ed off when something simple lets you down.
