    Flashing odometer

Hi all, I am looking at a D2 V8 which has the flashing odometer. I h ave read the threads on causes and fixing, just wondering if it will do any damage to anything if driven while flashing for a little while. Cheers Brett

Flashing odometer means that the mileage in the BCU doesn't match the mileage on the dash.

Next question is why don't they match? Has the BCU or instrument cluster been replaced due to a fault, or has a low KM instrument cluster been fitted to make it look like a low KM vehicle to get a higher sale price?

Will the flash cause any damage, no.

AFAIK the BCU and instrument cluster will 'sync' to the highest reading after a certain time or ignition on's. Then the flashing will stop.

    Flat battery

I had an alternator malfunction, no red light on, and kept driving until there was no more charge in the battery to keep the fuel pump running.

I believe the speedo started flashing along with lots of electrical bits on the dash dropping out.

Have you had any electrical problems?

    Regards

    Mike

If it's just flashing and no crossed B on it no worries, like Kelvo said it's most likely a missmatch between stored mileages ... the cure is to disable the odometer error warning in the BCU with nanocom or similar, that's all...unless it's not something odd

You can sync them using a nanocom. Only takes a couple of minutes.
I did my sons D2 V8 just last week.
Can be a few reasons why they do this, the one I know of is alternator failure and replacement.

Thanks guys, might ask a few more questions before I think about buying the car. It is a 5 speed manual, I forgot to mention that before if that matters. Cheers Brett

Might be relevant if the car isnt your's and is for sale cos flashing odometer can be the sign that the instrument pack was replaced with a lower mileage one just that the owner didnt know to disable the error warning

I believe the ODO will revert to the Kms stored on the BCU after 16 restarts.

so you could start it and turn it on and off, 15 or so times and see what that does to it.

swap the IP cluster (instrument panel) as much as you like, the km's on the disco are not stored in the IP.

BUT its not to say someone didnt try it, hence the mismatch flashing.
