Belay that last post, She is still overheating
I will organise a flattop this arvo.
Fingers Crossed, I replaced the thermostat today and gave the old girl a run and Eureka NO overheating dramas.
I have a new set of top hoses and the bottom radiator hose coming (Probably early next week) so that means that All the hoses and thermostat will all be brand new
I will still take the truck into Whyattt's so they can do a gas test on the coolant bottle just to make sure there isn't an issue with the head gaskets But at this stage I am hoping that I have fixed the overheating issue.
I had NO trouble bleeding the system this time like I did before either But the heater is doing a bit of gurgling so I haven't gotten All the air out yet.

I got an email from Whyatt's that the heads are buggered
Hopefully there isn't too much other damage done.
On the bright side though, After this work the old girl should be good for another trip up the Kimberlies next year![]()

why the heads?
are the heads are warped?-- the only way they can be buggered, but still fixable,, usually--![]()
it must be really serious if a couple of skims cant fix it--
as always the worst problem with the RV8 is heat,,
sleeves drop, heads warp,
recycle bin time.

Of course I want to keep it and I know it is going to cost me 2K just for getting a set of head gaskets replaced so I imagine I will be up for a few more quids if the heads need skimming as well.
The idler pulley and belt along with the water pump will probably be a good idea to have renewed at this time as well, So Yes I want to keep it as it is a Great little truck and is a joy to drive, even though it is slowly sending me broke![]()

The heads are off and here is what is wrong.
As I have serviced the engine every 10,000k's it looks like I am paying for the previous owners neglect and I am somewhat peeved that the sorry condition of the radiator wasn't picked up when I had it serviced at natrad a couple of years ago.We have removed the cylinder heads & found the gasket has blown & the cylinder head will need servicing, reface, pressure test & crack test. The heads will need to be acid bathed as they have a very large
amount of sludge in the engine. Oil galleries from the block to cylinder head were completely blocked due to carbon & sludge. We would need to remove the engine sump to clean sump & oil pick up pipe. The vehicle appears to have missed a few oil changes in it's life. The hydraulic lifters are worn out due to lack of lubrication & would require replacing.
The Spark plugs & Leads require replacing as they are very worn, the outlet pipe on the top of the radiator is cracked, the plastic has gone rotten/soft possibly due to overheating/age. Radiator replacement is required (looks like someone may have tried to superglue it up in the past) Also recommended to replace 2x idlers & main belt tensioner which are noisy to spin as well as fan belt.
Nothing visibly wrong with the water pump, however, you may wish to replace it while we are in the area. Also a recommendation to fit a low coolant level alarm. Subject to the cylinder head service cost, the total for everything including the optional water pump/coolant alarm is around $4500
This lack of care probably also explains why I have had to do so much other work on the truck over the last couple of years, People should be "Veted" before they are allowed to buy a Landrover![]()
Ah well it is what it is and at least at the end of the day I will be able to enjoy my D2 for many k's to come after all this work has been done.
