Mines got 487000kms on it, serviced every 50000kms and has only started showing signs of its age, ill say they last if you service and dont tow anything over 900kg in D but in 3rd to stop it from going to 4th (got told that years ago but can't remember who or exactly why) they are a tough box and probably the easiest box to service ive ever done

Pretty sure I killed mine towing. Didn't know about using 3 instead of D. Simple 'fail to proceed' after a period of M + S flashing occasionally.

When it was "rebuilt", it failed again in less than 1000k. Symptoms included a situation that I could only describe as being like a manual with two gears engaged at once, so maybe those seals you mention were faulty. Before that happened it would change erratically or not at all unless I pushed it.

When it was pulled down again, there was this. Might explain the erratic shifting?

The teeth on the clutches looked similar. The A clutch, which was the only thing the "rebuilder" replaced, was totally shot.

that wear on the splines is common on TD5 transmissions due to the diesel "chatter" if chasing up donor transmissions try and get the petrol ones.
