Is it time to service the auto trans?
Hi all
Just wondering what sort of life people get out of their automatic gearboxes on D2's. I have an 02 discovery with around 225k's - definately feeling pretty different to how it used to (changes not very smooth).
Is it time to service the auto trans?

Hello johnjohnson,
I think that the average, from various people, is that you're probably due if the thing hasn't stopped by about 250k km. This is just an average and I'm sure that there will be exception's both higher and lower. But from that point onwards, it wouldn't a surprise if the transmission blew.
Cheers,
Jason
Mine still going at 297k. I service regularly
How long you had it and how often have you serviced it ?
Mine has done over 300k but i change oil every service and filter every 2nd service. As dex3 oil is cheap
Mine lasted 287,000kms, I changed oil and filter every 40,000km.
What did mine in was constantly reversing up a hill with a loaded 8 x 5 trailer while doing a major landscaping project. The sealing rings on the input shaft wear and let pressure through so that the forward clutch is still engaged while reversing.
Having forwards and reverse engaged at the same time wears out the forward clutch (the A clutch).
When I pulled mine down all the other clutches looked brand new. The stator shaft splines for the torque converter were stripped too.
I service mine every 6 months, oil and filter. Had it a little over 2 years now
Had for 25,000 kms, havent serviced gearbox. Might have a look at doing the oil and filter soon if its reasonably straight forward
Here you go, Atlantic British have great service videos.
