Ok I think we are taking about composite gaskets yes? If so my understanding has always been no sealant, but if bare metal gaskets something like a copper kote should be used. Maybe where some confusion has arisen?

We used the silverfrost on the old copper head gaskets, especially when running sidevalve engines on avgas - you'd do a valve grind after every couple of race meetings! used the same head gasket about a dozen times!

    Old fart

    That's me of course.

I have always used paint, 'Silver Frost' actually, the solvent evaporates off leaving fine aluminium particles behind. While it is still soft on with the head and tension up as per normal.

When in doubt I always use it still.

    regards

    Mike

never had issues with composit gaskets and hylomar

but you also dont need to paint it on ether ( i think thats where most people get it wrong) you just dust it on with a spray can just enough to make tacky, if you can see the fasket change colour to blue you have used too much unless its a old copper gasket or no gasket

I used stock composite head gaskets but used an ARP stud kit to ensure even and reliable clamping. So did Pedro. Pedro as said above used the spray and I didn't, but my block and heads were close to new (mileage not age...although I did have heads machined). So far so good. Pedro has more k's on his new gaskets and towing with LPG too so I would say he is on a winner.

    Cheers
