wont turn over at all TD5 auto

bit of a mystery.... for quite a while now i hit the key and nothing happens, this is very random, motor doesnt crank.
I put new connectors in the starter blaming them... but the prob still persists. with ignition on i can bridge the starter power and solenoid and it starts. so ruled out the starter motor.
next test was hooking up the hawkeye to see what and if it showed correct gears/ park/ neutral and it all reads correct so i dont think its the XYZ switch. im getting scared to drive it because i can drive it down the street, go in a shop, come back and no go,

    Any more idea's ???

    Thanks

    PS. have replaced starter relay

    - Oil on the ECU red plug? (my first check for anything intermittent or weird)
    - Does the fuel pump prime when you turn to key position 1 (accessories)?
    - No fault codes from ECU?
    - Battery is in good condition with good voltage and load tests ok?
    - Not sure if hawkeye can do same things as nanocom, but you could try disabling immobiliser to rule that out.
    - Other ancillary equipment in the vehicle turned on and drawing power (radio, fridge, lights, etc etc)?

Assuming that your starter relay is marked the normal way with 30 - 87 being the power path and 85 - 86 being the operating coil:

    1. Probe the 30 terminal and see that battery voltage is present.

    2. Bridge 30 to 87 in the relay socket to see if the starter operates.

    3. See what voltage appears at 85 with the key on, should be battery voltage.

    4. See what the change in voltage is at terminal 86 when you operate the key. This terminal should be the one that goes to earth via the safety contacts and security system.

    5. Fit a simple push button in a safe spot on or under your dash to over ride the security by taking battery power and operating the solenoid directly. Fit a 30A fuse to any naked battery power feed if you don't use the original relay feed in the fuse box.

Dodgy fuse/relay boxes in D2's are commonplace.

its sat 4 a few days, went out this morning and hit the key and off it went.

Ive had a Nanocom, but prefer the Hawkeye. ive now turned of the immobiliser 2 see how that goes...

It could be in the barrel, how much does your bunch of keys weigh?

Yeah, problem seems to be between ignition switch and relay. If relay checks out as above, then check ignition switch.

yeah, its had a new ignition barrel, i was thinking about the electrical connector on the back of the barrel, that turns with the key. ive got the immobilizer off ATM.
so i will see if problem still persists, if so off to the wreckers for that ignition part that goes on the back of the ignition.

    Thanks everyone
