    King River Crossing

Here is the Disco crossing the King River. Filmed with a phone. On the far bank the car slows, almost to a stop and you can hear the traction control kicking in.

    This crossing is quite tame

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

I was up there in May(quick day trip) .. nice bit of fun, crossing looked a bit deeper than I remember then.
Memory a bit vague, but that looked like the climb out at Pineapple Flat.

I ended up coming home the long way 'round ... via Wild Horse Gap up to Bennies(nice camp ground).

Does your D2 have a CDL?

    Yes my D2 does have a CDL. It's a facelift D2a.

It looks a lot like the track to Talbotville from Black Snake pretty sure that is the Crooked River though. I assume you were further north, looks like a great drive!

After watching these two vids I went on to watch other unrelated river crossing events which appeared.

There was a common theme evident - the lack of a water blind across the front of the cars. Which leads me to wonder. Has the fitting of a blind fallen out of favour? Have fourbies become more water resistant? Or..........?

I also wondered about the commonality of extended breathers on the drive line being fitted too................

I remember with my RRC the driveline (diff) breather were just small blob things on the diff .. ie. no extended lines.

My D1 is a 99 model and it has extensions up into the engine bay for the front, and the rear is up and goes to somewhere higher too(haven't actually checked other than I can see the line going up into higher body area).

D2 I have(v8) also has a couple of breather extensions up into the engine bay rear of engine .. and brothers TD5(heavily modded) has some quick connect lines(obviously modded by a previous owner).

For my D1 I've made up a front breather extension for the front(cam belt) cover ... but not yet for the rear access/drain hole.

Sort of but it is no insurance. The older engine fans didn't have viscus couplings. This meant the engine was trying to turn the fan through the water like an outboard boat motor, viscus fans don't have this same issue as they slip if too much force is applied to them. Therefore not turning into an outboard and stalling the engine.

Quite a few have put a TD5 fan through the rad, particularly if you hit the water hard.

It was a more common issue on some LC models with viscous fan though, probably because there were more LC's around.

The mechanic on the Cape always kept LC rads and fans in stock.

Interesting isn't it. I wonder how fast you have to drive to push the radiator into the fan? I've only used a water bra once, it was just before Nolans's Brook i think it is called Logan's crossing. I've not damaged a radiator or fan this way in all the crossings i've done. But to be fair, on average they are not as deep as the rivers on the Cape.
