    D2 Horn Button Fix

Discovery 2 horn buttons seem to be a particularly fragile item and one of Charlie’s popped off with a broken locating lug just before Christmas.

Not fancying removing the airbag and fitting the set I had in the spares box, I had a head scratch and worked out the following fix which so far is holding nicely.

As you will see I had just broken one lug at the base. 3 lugs would hold it in but it only needed a gentle bump for it to pop out again.

So I drilled a small hole in the lug base thick enough to push a bent paper clip into and glued it in with super glue. Once the glue set, I snipped the clip off so the end roughly matched the length of the lug.

Gently push the button back in while holding contact plate and spring in place and job done.

    Cheers

    Depends on the horn.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    LOL

I had had that happen to me an hour after I got home after buying Charlie. Great way to announce you had a new car to the neighbours and the dealer was not amused at having to pay for new horn buttons to be fitted under warranty.

    Cheers

When mine last popped out I lost one spring never to be found again. I still don't know where that spring went and as the door was closed it must be in there somewhere.
I was able to get a similar spring at Bunnings.
AFAIR, I heated the button and gently pulled the tabs outward and they haven't popped out since, although now I have said that I have probably doomed myself.

    Regards Philip A
PS great post and a good fix . If that happens to me I might try the superglue with powder in it. Can't remember the name although I used it a couple of hours ago.
