    +1 for the Ross balancer.

I had to make up a special bar to lock it up to tension the main bolt. The Ross balancer has a slightly different bolt pattern compared to the factory one. Apart from the install, it has been flawless and it looks better built than the original.

TD5 HB from Turner Engineering UK

    Hi All,
About 18 months ago I replaced a failing HB in my old 2001 TD5 D2 with one sourced from Turner Engineering in the UK. (Land Rover Engine Parts - Cylinder heads, camshafts, pistons, bearings).
They had HB, bolt and oil seal. Sent to me in 3 days - yes freight was $140 odd via DHL. IIRC all up was $460 ish
Installed OK and no more rattles.
    Cheers

failed Dayco power bond HB after only 2,000 driving. I've Never had a problem with this brand before so must have been a once off.
The centre rotates causing a loud thud as bolt lugs hit the casting and stops on engine shut down The rubber was intact. see pics .

I often wonder if the engine design engineers ever test a solid pulley on a new engine for vibration or just throw on a harmonic balancer on because that's what was done for years.

I don't know why i think these things I have just done the Falcon at 220,000ks and the D2 was around 240,000ks that's not bad service I suppose.

It is still hit and miss how long the standard oem fitted ones last as well
Some get a good run others don`t
Mine is still the original at 290 k`s and no noise or movement

Landrover oil leaks could play a part in some of the shorter life spans, luckily they are up the front of the motor if they were down the back you would be replacing them every 6 months.
