    Non Starting TD5

    Hi all
    I recently replaced the alternator on the Disco and also fitted an EGR blanking kit. When I was removing the alternator I also removed the ECU and battery tray for more room. I also needed to replace the vacuum line from the vacuum pump to the brake booster as it was cracked and replaced the drive belt. I tried to fire it up last night but she cranks but doesnt start. I noticed the check engine light is on and the key fob now arms/disarms the alarm. I don't have a nanocom and cant think why she wont fire. She was running fine before just not charging the battery. Any clues?

    Nothing that you've done should cause the issue. First thing I always try is resetting the inertia switch on the firewall. (Don't know why I do that but it's easy and been a culprit before). Other than that, check ecu connectors, earthing etc around the battery box. You may have damaged a sensor wire if check engine light is on.

    Priming?

    I was told that as I replaced the fuel filter I need to prime the system. The Haynes manual says that it self primes. I have an extract from RAVE which tells me the procedure so I will give that a go!

    From experience your battery needs to be in top condition, put it on charge overnight and give it a go.

    It lives!

    I bled the fuel system and after a couple of false starts, she runs like a good 'un! Cant wait to give her a run on the weekend.

    The vital bit of info you missed...you replaced fuel filter....

    *As many here know and the answer is search-able.
    *Ignition on, depress throttle pedal 5 times until engine light flashes, wait until bleed cycles finishes, then start.

    If you run out of fuel at full noise while driving.....
    *A good battery is needed.
    *Ignition on, depress accelerator 5 times until engine light flashes, wait until bleed cycles finishes.
    *Crank engine over will holding throttle pedal flat.
    *When engine starts to splutter/fire, bring throttle pedal up half way until full run is achieved.
    *Ignore white smoke coming out exhaust

    Can I assume your second advice is to apply after you have refuelled?
