    Kuhmo MT51 mud terrain tyres

Is anyone running Kuhmo MT51 tyres on their D2 - i’m seriously considering a set of 235/85/16s to go onto stock steel rims. I have an LRA 40mm spring lift and with the rims being standard offset I’m not expecting rubbing issues..

On standard offset wheels, you will likely have rubbing on full turns unless your extend the stoppers out.

Yeah I’m running those tyres but in a different size.

The name is misleading, they’re much more an A/T than M/T.

Seem to get noisier as they wear.

LT construction and ride is pretty harsh.

Ive just put a set of Kumho AT51’s on my Defender. Only done 1000km, but pretty happy with them. Great in the wet today, really grippy on gravel. Slight road hum on fast corners, otherwise quiet. I like them so far. Good price too.

I’m running 245/70/16 on my D2. Have put 5000km on them. Very happy. A good inbetween AT & MT tyre. There is a slight noise increase in town- but you have to listen out for it. Get noisy at 100km, but not nearly as bad as a full MT. Really happy in the wet too. Have only been off road a few times with them, but haven’t had any dramas. Price is pretty reasonable. Would recommend.

If not they're not then they're a standard thread type, so you can use a normal bolt, preferably a cap screw (alan key head) and a nut on the thread to lock it off, that way you can custom length them to the shortest possible with no full lock rub and maximising steering.

Are you sure that you have the MT51 then and not the AT51 - one is an all-terain and one is a mud-terrain with the same two digit code which can confuse.

Thanks for the useful advice.... I did check and I’ve got the 23mm steering lock stop bolts fitted .
