greetings folks.
finished fitting a 2nd hand engine into my td5 yesterday.
engine running sweet.
BUT !! there's always a but with td5's. I'm learning quickly :-))
return line from fuel cooler popped off and made a mess. :-((( ( no rust problems in that area now )
after investigation, it seems that the plastic barbs which lock onto pipe after the metal ridge are worn.
"o" rings are fine. bloody pipe just vibrates off !! for quick fix i'll tie the thing on.
replacement fittings !!
unable to find diagrams with part nos.
connectors appear to be "Dorman " 800-080, out of the usa.
any suppliers in aussie ??
or, is easiest solution is wreckers etc.
thanks.
the plot thickens.
tied fuel line so that it couldn't vibrate off.
fuel still leaking from fitting. ( insert a few choice words ) !!!
at this point i have to state that i bought the car with a cooked motor.
on a previous post i showed melted fuel lines on the fuel pump .
pulled off fuel line from cooler and shined a torch down the fitting into the fuel line.
seemed to be at least half blocked with melted black plastic bits, so i cut the line
and cleaned out the junk.
when i pulled out the cooked fuel pump it had black grains ? in bottom of pump.
might have to access the new fuel pump and make sure all fuel line fittings are clear.
on the fuel pump, which colour is the return fuel line from fuel cooler ??
I have sourced fittings for my previous D2 TD5 from Pirtek, but pro'ly any hydraulic hose co (Enzed, Hose Doctors, etc) would have them.
solved.
disconnected fuel return line from fuel filter and turned on ignition.
fuel flowing ok.ish !!!
reconnect and gained access to fuel pump.
disconect return line and run it into bucket.
ignition on. fuel dribbling out !!
poked wire down line and found resistance . full of crap from engine meltdown.
spat the dummy.
bought 5m of hi temp / pressure injector fuel hose from repco. ( only place open on public hol. apart from super cheap. )
cut fittings from original hose and fitted to new hose with correct wormdrive clamps.
routed new line above the old , on top of chassis rails etc.
connected, flushed air out.
working smoothly again. :-))))
just to be sure, i emptied fuel tank completely, and cleaned it out.
found slivers of metal in bottom, but nothing else. :-)))
