Standard disco 2 in sand dunes

I cut my 4WD driving teeth in a series landrover and a nissan G60 and there was no fancy electronics in those trucks and yet I managed (after several boggings) to develop my WA beach driving skills in these trucks.
The D2 even without the CDL fitted is a Far more capable 4WD than either of my first 2 4WD's So dont overthink it just concentrate on getting your tyre pressures down as low as possible and hone your sand driving skills.
Once you have mastered the WA beaches there will be No problems driving in sand anywhere else in Aus[thumbsupbig]

Just be aware that beach driving is one thing and sand dunes are another.
You should have training on dunes before you try them.
Some of the things that come to mind.
1 never try to turn when climbing a sand dune if you fail, you have to back down in your tracks
2 do not run across the face of a dune no matter how cool it looks.
3 you cannot change your mind once you start to descend a dune, and you have to accelerate if you start to turn or tip.
4 the bottom of many dunes is too sharp an angle for many 4wds and you may go straight in and the engine take out the radiator.
5 in bright sunlight you cannot see many depressions in dunes that may be 2-4 metres deep.
6 the thing that gets up a dune is momentum and power, and you have to give it the berries but back off near the top so you don't become an aeroplane.
7 there is a steep side and a shallow side on every dune and there is also generally a "spine " to the dune. It is much easier to go up the spine than either the shallow or the steep side.
How to deal with these things only comes with experience and it isn't comfortable to be teetering on the break over point on the crest of a dune.

Just wondering how a standard disco 2, no cdl or chip would fare? Specifically it would be lancelin in WA for anyone with specific experience here.

I'd be going with a crew and would be taking it pretty easy to begin with of course.

Discovery 2 Does have a CDL in the gearbox, they just don't use it. There is a kit that allows it to be used. Also the is a wire on the SLABS computer to be cut for Traction control operation.

2002 doesn't.
I can just see the argument at LR.
Engineer 1"Market research says we have to reinstate the CDL"
Engineer 2 " but we just took it out!"
OK you do what you like then but don't blame me if it goes wrong.
