I don't think thats the case unless the bolts come loose as bolts are not strong when bending due to stress raisers from the thread. If you're doing calculations don't forget the clamping pressure which will probably take most of the sheer force out of the bolts. That said, if you're not happy with 8.8, the sheer strength in 10.9 is greater. I tend to think that these bolts are not a limiting factor in strength.

Fitted, I have pointed all the lube points down so I don't have to cut holes in the floor. I don't know why nobody's thought of that before.

I am about to take the plunge and upgrade my Disco 1 front shaft to get rid of a persistent vibration and constant flogging out uni joints.
After doing some research here it seems the D2 front shaft is pretty crap as well
What is the best solution and strongest replacement ?
Not interested in best value for $$ I just want the best and strongest unit I can get

The D/C is a very high quality English made unit, the rest is Australian made, employing Australians. Price is within a whisker of the Tom Woods shaft and durability is at least equal or better.
If anybody else is interested in one of these shafts, I'm happy to put you in touch with the fellow I'm dealing with.
Driveline Services assure me the DC they use is the highest quality available. They were not prepared to say it was better than the Tom Woods version. I appreciated their honesty.
The shaft they built me was bigger and stronger in every aspect, to the original.
