    Auto Trans Issue?

I serviced the trans only 10000km ago using Penrite (can’t remember if it was synth or semi synth). Recently I’ve noticed some harsher gear changes. Only occasionally tho, sometimes when up changing at the point where you are about to decelerate. Other times it’s noticeable when cling to a traffic light and it down changes.

How can I tell if it’s the trans, TC or diff? A LR specialist said to me 12 months ago that the rear diff made a ‘funny’ sound as they were putting it on the hoist but didn’t investigate further. I’ve changed the drivers rear seal & the drive shafts were wear free.

    I do tow a 1.5-2t camper but I tow in 3rd @ 95km/h max

Was there a filter in the transmission and did you change it?

Did you change the oil only once then? cos that means you replaced only about half of the broken oil so in 10K Km that mix can be worn again especially if you are towing... if you want to do it well change the oil once, go for a ride as the box to go more times through all gears then change the oil again and the filter.... then you'll have around 80% renewed oil.

I was wondering the same thing. I read since posting to change the oil, go for a drive, change it a 2nd time, go for a drive, then change it and the filter a 3rd time.

Is 3 times overkill? I’ll be doing it myself so 3 x Penrite trans oil is still cheaper than going to the mechanic

3 times is even better but at least 2 times necessary if you want relatively fresh oil in the box not just a dirty mix

Three times is much better, that'd be my minimum as you are diluting the fluid down each time.
Once is less than half a fluid change.

That stuff has worked well for me so far, nice and smooth lock up of the clutch, to the point it's mostly imperceptible.
It isn't ZF licensed, something like Transmax Z is, but the Penrite fluid is a Group III synthetic base with a very good, modern additive package and it's often available at 1/3 the cost of Transmax Z. It's hard to go past.

I’m wondering if I try another oil. I’ve just changed to this product after using something else. I’ve had no issues until after the last oil change.

This prolly does not help but i was told not to use full synth in these autos..by at least two experts. I don't know why..but it was advised to only use dex3.

Maybe someone else has a better view on the correct oil?
