Measure the voltage while turning ignition to crank and make sure that the battery clamps are well tightened. After the flashing M+S were once on you should see a fault code stored in the autobox ECU so check that too
I know much has been written about the flashing m&s lights but there are about 20 or so causes so I am hoping somebody that has had similar conditions to my problem may be able to help . I am in the process of fitting a brake controller to my 99 td5 auto I have spliced into the brake light switch wire and run the power wire from the battery via a self resetting circuit breaker ,non of the wires have been terminated yet. However I left the ignition on over night and now I have the flashing lights ,the battery has been recharged to 13+volts tested the transmission switch using the rear wiper test but still no cranking .Nanocom shows no faults and the ecu comes up as not immobilized ,any ideas please

Do you have a flashing (B with a cross) in the IP display? it's not cranking yeah? Try locking and unlocking with the fob, it sound like it's immobilised. what state is the red alarm led? M&S will be can bus fault due to flat battery, clear that in the auto box section first then try starting again.

Thank you for your replies I have checked the voltage at the battery and there is no drop when trying to start however I have found a fault in the autobox screen on the nanocom p0705 position switch monitor ,I assume this is the wxyz switch , do I clear this fault and try again or do I check the switch ? Also I noticed that moving the gear leaver through its positions that the nanocom registers the movements up until D but not for 3 2 1 also the indicator light stops at D . at one point the ecu was immobilized (solid red led) and the nanocom indicated that ,I have since gine through the process of synchronizing the key and the learning process ,now nanocom indicates that ecu not immobilized

Other names of the XYZ switch are "starter inhibitor" or ''neutral safety" switch so if you have a fault code for it that's your problem cos it inhibits the starter circuit if it doesnt send well the P or N inpuit.

Have you had the bonnet open the whole time?
There is a switch at the LH front which is open circuit when bonnet closed. I have removed mine.
I suggest to shut the bonnet and try again.
Another suggestion, look at the XYZ switch cable and circlip on the side of the transmission. Perhaps it has slipped.
Another suggestion, remove the battery terminals and then touch the + and - terminals together.(away from the battery)

Once again thank you for your replies An update of my no start woes . I cleared the fault p0705 gear position switch and the flashing lights disappeared and ai thought I have got this but sadly no ,I left the problem at lunch time yesterday with a fully charged battery ,when I checked the voltage this morning it had dropped to 11.5 so there is a current draw down somewhere . I have very ordinary hearing but the missus came past and asked what that clicking noise was ,I could not hear it so I put my hearing aid in and discovered that relay 14 which is the ACE relay clicks about every 40 seconds ,removed it and it was warm and clicking stopped. I swapped the relay from R11 which is the same and the clicking started again so I can eliminate a failed relay . still not sure if this is the no start problem .
Well its supposed to deactivate all the capacitors in the ECU/BCU/ Trans controller and therefore reset them , somewhat like when you reset a laptop by disconnecting from power and taking the battery out for 30 seconds or so.What does touching the terminals together do or tell me ?
I have never done it but then I haven't left the ignition on all night.

I'm wondering how that so called ''hard reset'' (which is specific for CAN-BUS vehicles like D3-4 and others but not the D2) would do anything to the ECM and TCU which are ''isolated'' from the positive lead with ignition off![]()
