Water ingress in the ACE ECU area is not uncommon and the relay is hardwired on the earth path to that ECU and has permannent feed from F15, remove the glovebox, unplug the ECU and if the clicking stops the problem is the ECU, if it doest stop and no corrosion in the connector then it's most probably a problem within the fusebox.

AFAIK D2 has canbus to transmission controller. I don't know about BCU, but it's worth a try anyway.

Takes about 1 minute and cannot hurt anything.

Success at last PhilipA was almost on the money ,I tried the terminal trick but it did not work but so I had given up for the day disconnected the battery and came in for more rave and head scratching and to check the thread for at least half an hour . Sierrafery posted a check to do with the ACE ECU so I removed the glove box and panel reconnected the battery put in the hearing aids turned the ignition and it started ! THANK YOU EVERY BODY

I'm confused , it started just cos you removed the glove box or did you unplug the ACE ECU ?

I did not get to unplug the ecu , I think the half hour with the battery disconnected allowed the ecu to reset its self ,I tried the minute as PhilipA suggested but that did not work . the reason I did not unplug the ecu was that the clicking was more noticeable after I would try to start the engine so that was what I was doing and it just started . The only reason I disconnected the battery was to stop it going flat overnight . I hope that explained what happened , I near s**t myself when it started I had tools ,printed sheets of paper rags and my long distance glasses sitting on the cam cover .
