It's about how long you keep the lock button pushed, the function is to light your way to the house and it's described in the WSM at the BCU operation:Originally Posted by V8Ian

And do they go out after 30 seconds or they stay on more? ... if it's for 30 seconds it's a BCU misbehaviour on the courtesy light function if not there might be a power leakage within the lighting switch or interior fusebox(this one used to suffer from corrosion)

SupporterDid you have evidence of water in the front passenger side footwell ? If not, perhaps remove the cardboard trim panel behind the glove box and look for evidence of water on or under the foam liner which is close to, and possibly in contact with the SLABS and BCU looms.

Why? Because water running off the windscreen can get between where the plastic plenum cover (aka scuttle panel) contacts the windscreen glass. The water then runs down, and runs along the bottom edge and drips off the windscreen glass directly into the blower fan inlet then leaks out of the blower fan to saturate the foam lined trim panel - thereby waking the sleeping gremlins
I experienced similar issues affecting my speedo caused by a intermittent or missing Road Speed Signal due to water ingress into a loom Header Connector. I sealed the plenum cover to the glass with weather proof tape, unwrapped the looms and header connector to let the water out, however, it still took 2 to 3 weeks for the loom to thoroughly dry out and for the RSS and speedo to stabilise.

I think my issue may have been due to sticking fob buttons. I recently replaced the fob with a Chinese special, using the original gubbins.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
