Which engine?
I am going to replace my fan belt in the next few days, have the belt , when i am doing it ,what else should i be looking at while its off
Also is it advisable to take fan off or can it be done with fan on

No need to remove the fan. Check all pulleys for play and smoothness. Make sure you get the correct belt, the are a few variant, with ACE. with AC, With ACE and AC.
You may need a friend. Even with the tension pulley fully over I struggled to get the belt on. One hand on pulley, one hand trying to the belt on.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

Give the idler and tensioner and fan pulleys a spin, checking for any rumbling, noise, etc.
I'm awaiting a new fan bearing atm, I'm replacing them all as preventative maintenance when replacing the radiator (cracked spigot) and water pump.
