No need to remove the fan. Check all pulleys for play and smoothness. Make sure you get the correct belt, the are a few variant, with ACE. with AC, With ACE and AC.
You may need a friend. Even with the tension pulley fully over I struggled to get the belt on. One hand on pulley, one hand trying to the belt on.

Give the idler and tensioner and fan pulleys a spin, checking for any rumbling, noise, etc.

I'm awaiting a new fan bearing atm, I'm replacing them all as preventative maintenance when replacing the radiator (cracked spigot) and water pump.

I made a special spanner for this. Made it extra long for leverage, then attached a chain to the top of tool.
When pulling the tensioner I then lock the chain somewhere, which then gives me two hands to get the belt on/off.
