Wobble bar.....
What do people use to remove the top nut ( if you've done it you'll know ) securing the starter on D2 TD5s. All my socket extensions are either too long or too short, and then there's the little 'kink' needed. Plus, it's usually tight, so single hex socket is preferred.
Or, am I doing something wrong?

Wobble bar.....
A whole lot of swearing. That was my experience at least. I did wonder if a deeper than standard socket might have helped also.

1/4” drive wobble bar and it will be out in minutes.
No word of a lie, I can pull it out, replace contacts and refit in under 30 min.
Important is to have the proper lenght extension, you can get the ideea by watching this How to remove Td5 defender starter motor - YouTube

Going to be in Geelong anytime soon, Mike?
Seriously though, I was removing one from my donor engine/trans, out of the car. I seriously think I would have broken a 1/4" drive on it. Luckily, the one IN the car has been out recently, so maybe it won't be that tight. I had to use the gas axe in the other one once it had rounded.

I'm fairly sure that's what I did, but it'll depend on what length your extensions etc are. Definitely want to be using a 3/8 or 1/8 extension+ ratchet tho. When I do it next time I'm planning on cutting a deep socket down so I've got the perfect length to get the ratchet in the gap.
