This got me thinking, could you get ACE with a spring suspension rear end?
I've never seen one, doesn't mean they don't exist.
And LRs random option packages don't go up in spec level with any logical process.
Nup! it's springs for me.
I stopped to help a D2 near Mildura.
he said Its OK I have blown a a seal in the ACE pump and have to stop every x kilometers to fill it so I can get to Mildura.( 5 I think and he had fluid)
I wouldn't like that to happen on the Oodnadatta track.
The bloody fuel manifold at El Questro was bad enough.

yep standard fitment on the 7 seaters,,
but you could spec it on the 5's.
bags are great, just treat them like any other thing that needs maintenance.
so "you've" blown one in the bush, so? didnt you carry a spare? much cheaper than buying different sets of coils for different loads...

Same, mine is ACE with coils all round.
IIRC, ACE was a $4000 option, SLS was a $1500 option on the 5 seater.

Yep blew one on a trip now carry a spare (didn't at the time) and wouldn't be without sls suits my needs and is a comfy level ride fully loaded or empty. One thing i did do was to put a service kit in the compressor just as part of its maintenance but as yet have had no problems with it.

My D1 was a pov-pac, 5 seat, 3.9, the D2a an HSE, 7 seat, Td5., so not exactly comparing apples to apples.
I found the D1 an excellent tourer, easily capable of being driven 1,000 km a day, in comfort. In the D2 five hours behind the wheel seems like a marathon.
I have to hunch down, and view the road through the top few inches of the windscreen.
The cloth seats were more comfortable than the leather offering of the D2, although some of that could be personal preference.
The simplicity and lack of electronics gives me more confidence in the D1.
Off road I find little difference between the two, but feel the later model is more fragile.
