TD5 Starter Solenoid gone, any spare part in Sydney?

    Hi mates.

Finally it is completely gone at 295k kms. Can not start it this morning.

I was looking at some closest stores on eBay in Sydney and they all claimed their location right in Sydney but all of their original registered address were all from Hong Kong so hopeless. How could they do this btw?

If anyone could come to fix replace the solenoid or can sell me one set that's much appreciated.

    Mine is td5 2003 Manual.

Thanks a lot for reading and sharing.

    James

You need one of these kits For Land Rover Discovery Defender TD5 2.5 Diesel Starter Motor Repair Fix Kit AU | eBay Easy enough to do,once you have the starter motor on the bench! Make sure all the plunger and contacts line up correctly before fully tightening.

TD5 Starter Solenoid gone, any spare part in Sydney?

Of course anything on eBay that is coming out of Regents Park NSW is most likely a drop shipper using a distribution/forwarding agent with the parts first coming from places like China/Hong Kong.

Any returns are managed through the forwarding agent even though the seller is located overseas - so can offer better protection than buying direct from China.

Thanks for your replies. Just bought one following the link above.

In the meantime, I will get a spare 70A relay in the place just to get it start and run when waiting for the kit arrives.

Contacts and new plunger at Ashdown and Ingram (Springvale, Melbourne) for $51 as a public 'over the counter' customer in Feb 2019. I just walked in off the street. They had them on the shelf.

    Contact Set part # SLX75827
    Plunger part # SLX75564

Looks like there are a few Sydney outlets

If it's poling or shorting, possibly a lot. But i'd be worrying about the wiring in that case. 70a IS a lot.

Oh men, I am under the car now. I am sure whatever words you did swear when you have to try to remove or work on starter motor td5 then I already sweared them all out, and still go nothing than to find out that to connect a new relay in is almost impossible with that location and design of LR.

70A is enough to crank the td5 I am sure, might be 40A relay is just enough but more A in this case is better for starter.

Anyway, looks at the starter main wires, I believe that it is rated for at least 400A.

Not for a starter circuit it’s not. He’s saying he wants it to act as the starter solenoid in the short term.

Except - the starter solenoid also throws the drive into the ring gear, and closes the contacts for the starter which draws 300-450amp.

70a is nothing my driving lights are pulling 48a
