Had been expecting new OEM engine mounts from order made in January from UK, to have arrived by now, they hadn't so had to cancel the order from England. OEM mounts to make sure and to ensure they were at the right angle for the 8HP were a priority, lucky they were able to ordered from Aus. today, they are not able to found easily.

Last worry as to the fitting being absolutely correct. The only other place was the States which is surprising, and, they had them available.

Having been with a shoulder that is not able to operate as normal, with putting this in the easiest manner to push, let alone pull, the angle was great. Would suggest the pull down the line is best for the manufacturer as it is easiest to make for both LH and RH drive, but as to the optimum, it is the push and pull as to the angle from where are naturally in the position for to do this.

Ergonomics as science is about the natural, not the easiest to manufacturer or make acceptable for both LH and Rh Drive. Therefore with the short throw of the shifter, being along the line of NATURAL push and pull, makes sense to me and will make it more natural, rather than adapted to, especially along a steep track with the sphincter being squeezed.

    I may be wrong...

I would be doing an in-car mock up before committing.

For me it would feel more natural if it was orientated the other way (or kept straight) so the wrist can be kept straight and the elbow is around 45-60 degrees. Then with your hand on the lever the elbow does most of the bending.

Keeping the wrist straight is more ergonomic for me, but having said that I am not carrying a shoulder injury so you are better placed to know what will work for you - and that is all that matters.

It will be awesome either way.

That was pretty much why I went with the angled shifter, if you chicken wing out the wrist is straight down the line of the vehicle, if you extend your arm straight from the shoulder, and it will be reasonably straight to the shifter position, the wrist is kept along the line of the arm, not twisted to the right.

May not have gotten the angle 100% but did test this on both a table and splayed knee, it is such a short throw probably only 5 degrees per indent (there are two indents)

I have been following this with great interest. However, without going back and reading it all I was wondering where this conversion is at.

Is the transmission and transfer bolted to the engine and you are now working on the rear mount, or are you working the rear mounting before fitment?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

    Parts currently have

    • ZF 8HP - BMW X5 122K
    • Syncro TD5 to 8HP adaptor
    • Syncro 8HP to LT230 adaptor
    • HTG CAN Io ECU convertor
    • HTG Wiring Harness for CAN Io to 8HP and Shifter
    • PWS Gear Indicator
    • BMW F Shifter
    • Shifter Trim for Console
    • Engine Mounts - to ensure correct alignment
    • Transmission Oil Thermostat
    • 8AN PTFE line and connectors

    Waiting on

    • Chassis mounts from England expected 2 weeks
    • Console from the States
    • 8HP oil adaptor plate from QLD.
    • 1.003 LT230 from England
    • 1" Front Drive Shaft extension from US

Expected delivery for all is 2 weeks, conversion being undertaken once all parts landed.

Unable to make the lines for Transmission cooling and attachment to current hard lines to Cooler and the shortening of the rear tail shaft until actual install.

Side Chassis Plates will be templated and modified to match chassis requirements, then installed and supports tacked on. Taken off, fully welded and then reinstalled.

    We do not know
Will the LT230 line be long enough (the Ashcroft locking for the TC seemed to have more than enough length) but as they must have some slack for the HP24 hoping this will be the case but will not hold up the install.

In discussions, whilst the 'actual' install time is no longer than changing a gearbox with additional bolting of adaptors and mounting plates and connecting of wiring and centre console adaption, due to the nature of the unknown we are expecting two full days to install and connect up relevant wiring for GB connectivity as well as the fitting of the 1.003 gear set.

As to wiring, have not actually looked at where the current loom runs, so whether we remove the current TCU and mount the HTG unit there or if loom comes down through the console, we will mount the HTG unit under the console mounting plate.

As this is being done at a workshop that is extremely busy, would hope that we are able to get the D2 off the hoist as expediently day 2 as possible and do the console and transmission display once the GB is full and connected.

Actually would make sense thinking about it now, the shifter and other wiring to the dash from the TCU would route best through the console.

Have the wiring diagram for the harness and colours etc. so this should make it very expedient. Thanks
