From what I can ascertain at the present moment is that the attachment is to the LT230 and the syncro adaptor, so potentially should be viable for the 6HP. I take it the gearbox and LT230 are supported as one.

They sent me back a message -

"Hi. This will suit the lt230 and 8hp if it’s the 4wd variant. I’m unsure if the D2 chassis rails are the same width as the defender but could supply the 4 weld on chassis tabs in extra length for you to cut down to suit. Thanks"

Have replied with the chassis dimensions of the D2

    Mounts

They got back with the information that the Defender is the same width at 630mm, so the use of the tray may be able.

To this end have offered to be the guinea pig for measurements etc of the tabs onto the tray but would require the holes to correspond to the D2 chassis, as to how these differ I do not know.

OF course the D2 chassis has both the SLS and ACE units attached to the outer chassis rails but removing these and the bolts, replacing with longer ones would not be a insurmountable problem.

If there was a difference when installing the tray, much easier to cut and add or remove a piece of the tray. Or if minor, just modifying one or both sides of the bolt holes to slots.

Well it is all happening, the company are getting back to me regarding the plates and some ideas as to how we do it. The issue of course is where the plate is located as to be able to weld the brackets to them - much prefer onto the plate rather than the chassis.

Also contacted Syncro as to the actual length of complete assembly and hopefully some pics of completed vehicles.

Found this little beauty of course it is a LHD vehicle but have contacted them about making a console for the BMW shifter and the handbrake on the right side of course. At around $100US, seems pretty good value.

Rocky Mountain British got back to me happy to make the custom console! Just need the 'dimensions' of the 'hole' position and they will do the handbrake conversion!!!

Further conversations with them and have ordered a RHD trim cover for the BMW shifter sent to them.

Looks like I will get them to do the holes for the Hayman Reese Brake controller done at the same time.

They do carling switches on the RRC and D1 versions and with the extra real estate the shifter realizes this could even be a D2 switch carrier panel such as this rather than Carling

Then repurpose the switches which are available with multiple facings, so many thoughts to ponder.

    Support Mock Ups

The supports for the Gearbox will essentially be welded to pre drilled D2 specific plates bolted to the Chassis to match.

Once I have the gearbox mated, supports bolted to adaptor and LT230 mounted and levelled, tack weld the supports. Remove the plates and fully weld the brackets.

Supplied drawings without the actual D2 chassis holes - the plates will of probably be longer of course but the basic design is shown.

RRT are the D2 plates being manufactured by you or the supplier? Looks like a great solution.

Plates are being done by the supplier - the longer they are, the more usable / saleable across the board they would be to pundits doing conversions of any sort on a D2.

The other option is get them as per the defender ones with the undertray as the 8HP has a plastic 'sump' so having to protect this requires a guard of sorts anyway.

Your conversion may be sooner than later Slunnie!!!
