Just had a whatAP conversation with the company who make a product called HEXPROG II, it allows me to download and then reflash the 8HP and connects to the 8HP on the bench and not through the OBDI port. The licence is unique in that you can licence it for days when you need it rather than paying for a full / yearly licence and when similar functionality of units that I researched today is upwards of $5K, this is perfect.
So should get this next week, download the firmware off the 8HP and send it off, get the rewriten firmware with immobilser removed and reflash the 8HP ECU.
To give you some idea of the power of this unit

SubscriberThanks for this, the ordered HexProg is coming today so will be able to do it myself (hopefully) but more importantly they could be a valuable resource come installation or problem I get in the reading and flashing. Did look up M57 swaps a couple of weeks ago if this was going to be a needed go to to not waste the parts I had already purchased and did not come across them. Looks like they speacilize in Nissans (which is probably why they did not come up) but they do note ECU immoblizer removal.
Have been going through as much information as possible over the weekend and am pretty confident, once the IO CAN issue is resolved the actual install should be relatively simple.

Went down today to get the back up file from the 8HP (has been sitting in my nephews factory down in the FTG) and having to take off the packaging on the skip and low and behold it had a drive flange on the back of the GB, ohh pooh I thought I have a 2WD box and not the 4WD drive shaft I need. With saddened heart packed it into to the back of the green D2a to take it to the wrieckers and try and find a HP8 with the shaft rather than flange and swap it, even if it was a cost. Nephew suggested keeping it and putting it into my 86 BMW 635i which seemed a pretty good idea if I had to keep it.
Well got on the net to try and find a GB and luckily came across a GB in Tas for sale (twice the price I paid for mine, seems they have basically doubled in price since last year - cheaper importing!) and going through the pics it showed the transfer case all shiny and my AHHH AHHH LOL moment, my GB still has a transfer case attached. I had to apologize for a rather terse letter sent to the supplier!!!

Had trouble downloading the backup file as I now find that it may be one of three wirings to the GB that wiill work and not necessarily just the one on the connector supplied, and now my licence has expired, so attempting to reinstate that without the impost of extra cost.

Oooh too funny! Well, spotting the transfer was the best outcome!

RRT, I thought you might find this interesting. Its a new 30mm shorter HOT 8HP/LT230 adaptor, but this setup is destined to be fitted behind a Td5. Hopefully shortly in the future all of the secrets might be revealed - it might be worth following the build.
Cheers

No lubrication on the gearbox output shaft splines!!??
Hello fretting corrosion, just like our old Defender axle splines in the drive flanges, or the Deefer MT82 spud shaft behind the Tdci.
I'd be giving a generous coating of anti-seize or a good moly grease. Or better yet, somehow setting up a splash feed with oil and a couple of holes spark eroded through the shaft. So using that seal at the T/case end plus a seal in the t/case too.
[edit] I reckon I'd be re-machining the shaft, too. Why the two steps? and it's only bevelled, I'd like a generous radius at both steps.
I'm only criticising as I'm seriously wanting to do this and i see flaws in each adapter I've looked at

Molybond GA50 assembly paste, as used on all later LR gbox/TC splines if they apply enough. The lubricant in my L322's splines when relubricated after 150K kms was rather dry but the splines still as new.
