    TD5 Injector Codes Changing

    Hi All,

I am deep down the rabbit hole. One of my injectors failed and after replacment I had a "tikking noise from the top end" (we changed the injector loom at the same time and all injector washers and o rings.

Mechanic viewed the other injectors and said 3 & 5 were switching at a wiered rate and tested the Omhs and said they too look like they are failing.

I bit the bullet and changed all the injectors. Two were sourced from the same company and the other 3 from another. Sad to say the vehicle is not right still. Every now and again the tikking sound comes back (after the vehicle is nice and hot and there is a slight load on the engine. Ie at the lights with the foot on the brake) and now it starting to smoke on start up after sitting. To which the mechanic said its likely diesel wash with something leaking. (its booked in again for him to go through everything)

Attched is a video and some photos.

    My main question is:

The injectors came with new codes however the last letter of the codes doesn't seem to save in the nannocom.

Injector 1 & 3 were replaced with blue tops from the same company and have the following codes:

    10P Engine

    Injector 1: NMNFB
    Injector 3: LFNGB

after saving the file and writting back to the ECU the last letter "B" changes to an E or F. All other letters remain correct

as far as I am aware looking at the posts on the form

"last digit is ameasured variance in idle performance."

Cylinder balances on idle is good with +/- 1 or 2

I think the nanocom will not program 10P injectors correctly.

I'm away from home but can probably verify later.

The ticking won't be codes though.

Certainly on the 10P head change to Turner and ECU to NNN the Nanocom changed / set the codes without problem

Nanocom doesn't write the correct codes to the ECU with 10P maps even on a NNN.

If you enter the codes then write them to the ECU, cycle everything and read them back out, see what it says. I could be wrong and they might have fixed it, but it's worth a look.

TD5 injectors are very robust, normally.

Pay close attention to the rollers on the injector rockers, and the cam surfaces they run on as faulty ones will cause intermittent ticking and cause the "weird switching".

If the engine has had prolonged oil changes or oil dilution from fuel or coolant in it's history, this can cause these parts to fail ( hopefully just the rocker shaft and not the cam)

My understanineding is that wrong injector codes has a very small and un noticeable effect.

This was the case with me. Changed the engine and it ran fine before I coded the different injectors.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
