    Just a moment...

The researchers had two cars in the sun for an hour, one black and the other silver, parked facing south, in Sacramento, California. The silver Honda Civic (shell SR 0.57) had a cabin air temperature of about 5-6°C (9-11°F) lower than an identical black car (shell SR 0.05

Thank you for all your helpful comments, I feel at ease with my plans now, although I will admit that I was timid about posting what might be viewed in some circles as a sacrilegious act by me messing with the iconic look of a Land Rover Discovery 2

Just to be a smart arse.
Their tents are black because they are woven from the wool from their Awassi ( or Nejd) sheep which are black.
Their robes are dirty white .
There is plenty of water as the Saudi Government issued them with Mercedes water trucks with troughs along the side for the sheep or goats to drink.
I have met quite a few in the desert.
remember tail up= goat tail down = sheep.

BTW it is a tradition with LR to have contrasting roof colour Most defenders have contrasting roof colour. The D1 and D2 are the aberration.

The clear coat on the roof at the right rear corner of my 1999 build D2 is failing rapidly and is peeling AND I aso have bubbling under the paint at he top of the windscreen on the driver side that is creeping up from behind the top windscreen finishing rubber and clearly indicates an advancing rust problem. I intend to deal with both issues which when done properly will require a repainting of the roof. The original vehicle paint colour is Kinversand which is an orange /brown metalic paint with a copper fleck highlight. I thought that I might avoid the issue of trying to match the now much faded factory colour and settle on a contrast colour for the roof. I have found examples on the internet but they are mainly dark body colours with white or black roof. A black roof coupled with a blacked engine bonnet power bulge would look okay on my D2 but living in Australia I hesitate to go that route for obvious reasons. Maybe I should go with just the white or tinted white roof?

I'm looking forward to your thoughts and opinions........

I painted the roof and bonnet of my D1 white (body colour is brown) because of peeling clear coat.

I tried a few different repair methods on the clear coat and gave up.

IIRC the tents are very clever as they are a loose weave so quite breezy and they can even have fire places in them as the smoke easily goes through, but if it rains the fibres swell and become waterproof.
