Not just a bullet, more like a missile.
A few yeas back I obtained a S/H engine pipe with the cat removed. When I fitted it I noticed that it was rubbing on the corner of the sump.
Didn't think it would be an issue, but it actually rubbed a hole in the sump. So today I pulled the sump off.
Yesterday I was researching sump gaskets when I stumbled on an old thread.
This thread mentioned that when doing oil pump bolt(which I have done) to also check the pressure relief valve plug.
Over all my 13 years of D2 ownership, I have lost count how many threads/posts I have read about the oil pump bolt, but never the relief valve plug.
Well bugger me, mine was not just loose, it was about half way out.
Last August and the one before that I crossed the Simpson Desert. How lucky was I that it did not happen there, for two reasons.
1/the cost of recovery. 2/If it had, I would now be driving a Toyota.
So the sump damage was a blessing in disguise.
This is a warning to others who are unaware of this.
Link to thread where I got the heads up. Read the last two lines of post 5 and the pic in post 6
