Thread: auto tranny

There is a dipstick on the LH side of the engine near the firewall with a big orangeknob on it, on level ground with the engine/auto cold start the engine shift into nuetral and then check the level.

Just had a look. Definately no big orange plug....like you'd expect.

Could it be because it's a TD5? ....sorry forgot to mention earlier. My signature and avatar have gone..!!??

In that case there is a level plug on the front of the oil pan where the dipstick should be

hi,you need to look further at checking the oil in a td5 auto.i think you have to check it while it is running at the level plug

And also work it through all of the gears before opening the plug.

You can fit the D1 auto pan which has the dipstick to the D2 if you really want.

Thanks for asking that question Twigrx7...I was too embarrassed to!

But I do have to ask why they would make it such a chore to check? Was that done for wading purposes, i.e. no water down the dipstick pipe?

the cynic in me says its so only the dealer will/can check it,,

service it regularly,,
check for leaks regularly(oil spots on flat carparks etc),,

also,,
ask Slunnie about checking the cooler for "obstructions"
