    Hi All,
    Hope you are well...

    Just posting/updating my stats....

Front Drive Shaft Repaired @ Hardy Spicer Dandenong... it was pretty naffed when Simon (hubby) took it out & to them...

Upon its return and $460.90 out of my pocket I have had the 3 uni joints replaced as well as a ball kit and balanced.

Since Simon has put it back in... no more crickets, no more clunk noise when changing gear... i'm amazed we lasted the drive back from South Australia as from memory I remember the clunk BEFORE we left & thought it was just me

Oh and I have 271 odd K on the odo too...

    Cheers,
    Lp

    Hiyah :-D

Was that front also? I'm hearing some intermittent 'tweets' from the rear... but I may be mistaking it for the bushes as I know they need doing....???

(btw - apols, re the spanner... it was 10mm in the end, you were correct... I misunderstood the other 1/2)

    Cheers,
    Lp

196k on the clock and just discovered a veeerrrry loose joint on the centre diff end of the front driveshaft. Has been tweeting for a little while, but was convinced that it wasn't the driveshaft.

Yesterday, the last day of a 10,000km road trip, started to hear a bit of a grinding noise! Think I've been very lucky indeed.

Mechanic says as a short term measure I can take the shaft off and turn on the CDL, as long as I'm light on the throttle (which I normally am anyway). Seems okay to me, anyone have any concerns with this?

I just replaced mine and did about 2000k's without it there. Didn't even think about it, given it will clunk and click a bit with light throttle if you are floating just on/off drive/coasting. It's just the backlash in the rear components taking up.

Worse part is loosing the ABS and TC when CDL is engaged there is some wire you can cut to stop that but as i was only driving a short distance each day i didn't worry about it.

Also make sure the CDL light comes on as when i first did mine it didn't come on i had to give it another go. I thing it was only the switch sticky as the car drove but no CDL light but i was worried it would pop out while driving so i gave it another shot.

I test drove a D2 on Tuesday. All of 400m, told the dealer never to allow it to move again until the shaft was replaced.

do all D2 have the double front uni joints?

Just checked the drive shafts on my 2000 D2 v8 and the front shaft has a single uni joint at each end.

i am going to replace the unis, is it worth changing the front shaft to a double joint? vehicle is completely std spec.

    cheers

hehe, my fault it would seem!
What age/mileage should we be able to get out of them? Its failure was due to the hose thing leaking on to it wasn't it?

I think the air con thing is an urban myth,,
its all down to lack of maintenance.
