    Hi all.
I want to get a snorkel fitted to my D2 but was wondering if there is any real difference in the brands and does one fit/work better on the D2.
Any info will be much appreciated

I had access to a cheap second-hand Airtec, but ended up buying a Safari, mainly because the head arrangement on a Safari allows it to be turned around backwards and also allows easy fitment of a oiled foam cover for slow dusty work...and because it looks tougher

Another potential problem with the Airtec is that the head sits fairly flush with the windscreen which may result in water flowing up the screen into the snorkel if you get a bit enthusiastic with water entries. The Safari is a better design in that the head is out from the screen.

I've heard people say that Safari also has better airflow characteristics and is better quality, but I'm not totally convinced of this as the Airtec is actually larger cross-section and the Safari doesn't mate up with the inner guard particularly well - hence the mod described in the other snorkel thread that is currently running...
Always looking for creative new ways to get bogged... :whistling:

76 RR...sold coz fuel was expensive at 70c/l
    93 200 Tdi Disco...old faithful...sold to make way for...
    99 Td5 Disco ACE...nice drive...hopefully reliable...

I made the mistake of going the cheaper option and fitting the airflow snorkel. Be warned, you get what you pay for.

I bought the most expensive one over here in the UK , but LOVE it

Mantec, If its good enough for camel trophy and G4 vehicles, its good enough for me.

My choice was made by the fact I like the snorkel to be more discrete, and the safari and airtflow just look to much all the way down the wing imo, how ever having said that I think they look ok on darker colour cars, but on my blue one, for me it would have looked to much.

Also its all metal construction, so if you wack it with a tree branch for example, it wont break, I know a couple of people who have broke the safari snorkels, dont get me wrong, its not a habit to hit large branches when off road, but its something else to consider.

The Mantec looks great, however no need to be so harsh on the Safari. I've hit plenty of trees with mine and it's great. Safari is a very strong snorkle if you like clearing bush with it. Works great as a snorkle too.. I'm very happy with mine and in five years of owning it, I've never really thought twice about it. Which is what you want in an item like this... Set and forget.

I think the UK must just have alot of angry trees to be braking snorkels.

    Cheers

Not sure I made the 'mistake' but I went Airflow as well. Knew I was not paying Safari price and not getting Safari quality.

If $ are not an issue then Safari would be a good way to go.

I have the Airtec. I like it because it doesnt sit as high or out as much as the Safari, its more moulded to the car and look less obtrusive. Plus I didnt have too much choice as it was on the car when I got it!

I think Airtec and Safari and your best options. They are well known brands and both good quality. I would suggest you go for the one you like the look of.

I've had mine now for just under a year now, about two weeks after i fitted it, it started warping and pulling away from the bodywork, there is a gap now, about 8mm, front and back of the horizontal section that i've had to fill with black silastic. My reasoning is that this is due to there being no fixings near the edges of this part of the snorkel.
Every time i look at the snorkle i curse having fitted it!!

I wasn't being harsh, just speaking my opinion thats all . "if" my car was a darker colour I would probably have gone with the safari, but on mine I "think" it would have looked to obtrusive. Its my opinion thats all, come to think of it my D1 is dark, but I put a southdown snorkel on that as its the best value for money (over here).

I personally think the safari is "over engineered" as there is no need to really bring it all the way down the outside of the wing when there is plenty of room to do it inside, like my mantec...

Anyone should just choose the one they like best, they all do the same thing.
