Thread: HDC...who uses it?

yes it is to fast but I am getting a true speed unit for the bigger tyres and as this unit has two speed settings I am wondering if I can set it up to trick the HDC into going slower?? time will tell if this is successful or not

I used it the first time in anger same day you did Stevo68. At our first down hill I forgot to put in in a gear, just left it in drive, and was way too fast so I used the foot.

I used it on and off during that day as I wanted experience not using it too and have decided that I probably wont use it in future. I don't see the difference between using it and letting the engine braking/traction control handle it.

I use it on the driveway sometimes as I read in a thread here that if you don't exercise it the seals(?) will dry out(?)

Am I off the mark, or isn't it part of the ABS system, much like TC, in which case, it only works when the system decides it's necessary ??

Bearing in mind I drive a fender, so have no experience with HDC.

I don't like the HDC at all, as previously mentioned, it's too fast, especially on rutted or rocky tracks. Also adds to the sensation of not being totally in control
I tried it out a few times just after getting the D2, now dont use it at all.

You guys do know you can change the speed of the decent under HDC dont you? . . By selecting Low Range and 1st, 2nd 3rd or drive will each give a different speed. Cant remember what they are, something from 3kph up to 15kph, its in the owners manual I think.

It shouldn't make the car go faster than simple engine braking alone, it has to be the same or slower, 'cos HDC only works on the brakes and does not provide throttle input.

And if you're not in Low it wont work atall.

My only issue is when you stop on a down hill, (to get out a take a pic ) and then re-ingage it to continue, you initially roll forward quite unnervingly quickly until it grabs again, this usually causes some skidding until its slowed itself down (within about a meter or so)

Nope didnt know, was used to my D3 where I engaged it in Drive. Will have to try next time in First and see how it goes...thanks for the info Simon,
