Thread: HDC...who uses it?

I use it all the time on the tracks

I love it, perfect control - but my youngest son (6) complains it's too slow.

I have used mine on a few occasions on steep descents and it is fine. Certainly not too fast on the slopes I have used it on, but I do lock it in 1st low.

First low in the D2 in manual trans is a thing of beauty down hills. I use HDC though because I have been down bloody steep descents where even in first low she has slipped here and there and the HDC comes on and gives bias to the front axle's brakes - its a thing of beauty.

Spot on Mike...I only ever use it to exercise the shuttle valaves. I find the thing useless and annoying otherwise. It shouldnt be used as a crutch or by those who think they dont need 4wd training...

I used to use it before I fitted the CDL cable. I think it is a safety issue on real steep & slippery stuff (wet hard clay) if you don't have CDL and just using engine braking then it would be possible for 3 wheels to run away while only one slips(spinning backwards). The only thing stopping that would be your brakes either manual or TC / HDC. I found it quite good in that setting. If traction is no big deal then just ride your brakes and engine for a more controlled descent.

I use it to impress my friends. But the shuddering usally scares the sh*t out of them.
When it comes to real descents I just use the motor.

I pull it down through the gears to slow down if the hill is long enough or slippery... otherwise I just use the big pedal. With CDL, ABS, EBD, EBC, ARB, JT2's and GIO there isn't really anything that HDC can offer me that is better.



Actually sometimes I use it, just so I can press the button and hear the funny bell that rings with it.

I do not use it any more. I have an auto and lock in 1st low and have full control. A 4wd driver instructor (who uses landrovers and does training for Landrover) actually told me that locked 1st low was a better option than the HDC for experienced drivers.
HDC does take you back abit when you use it for the first time as it "speaks" to you.
