gday I don't know where you are based but the td4 is a freelander motor I suspect you mean the 300 or 200 tdi four cylinder Discovery, I will actually have one of each on the market pages soon pm me if interested
Hi all,
I'm new to the discovery - I'd love a defender but they are out of my price range - just wondering if anyone has any links to land rover information and specifications? I'm looking at buying a td4 discovery as the td5's are out of our price range but have had a hard time finding information on the net on these cars.
I'm interested in common problems to look for, engine information etc. We'll be looking for a manual - there's plenty of autos around do they have many problems?
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Welcome you will find plenty of info on this site. If you update your profile so we know where you are it can help with advise and help. Cheers Brett
Thanks for the replies. As you can tell my knowledge of engines isn't the best - the last time I played with land rovers was a series 2 with a holden red motor.
Just wondering if there is an info thread somewhere with info on what the options were in the 90's? I've got a budget of less than 10k so won't be able to consider a TD5.
Cheers
You will get a reasonable Disco for that money. If you want to modify it such as body lift home made front and rear bars ect go an earlier one without airbags. You should pick one up and still have $2-3G to spend on upgrades such as suspension and tyres.![]()
So it looks like I'm after a manual diesel without the airbag suspension - I read the thread in the good oil about the airbag susp and it sounds pretty expensive to do up.
What year did the airbag suspension come in?
How reliable are the autos - I haven't totally ruled out an auto although I do prefer the idea of a manual as I can work on them.
Does the 4 cylinder diesel have common rail injection?
Many questions... Cheers

Thanks for the replies,
A couple of more questions - are any of the discovery body panels aluminium like other landys and also how reliable are the autos? Theres so many more autos than manuals...
I downloaded an engine manual of the 4 cyl diesel and they are pretty simple - not over head cams etc.
Cheers
someof the links are "dead"but some work for the discovery
